Workplace mediation is a cost-effective way of resolving organisational conflict. This 1-day course gives participants a comprehensive overview of the principles, the process and the benefits of workplace mediation. A shorter version of this course can be offered as a half-day workshop.

To examine mediation as an alternative method of resolving workplace conflicts and as a complementary approach to existing organisational policies.
To explore the benefits of embedding mediation within your organisation.

Even though conflict occurs in every organisation, only few employees know how to manage it effectively. Thus, organisational conflicts are often avoided and left to fester and grow. By not managing conflict, organisations are spending a lot of time, energy and money dealing with situations that could have been nipped in the bud. This 1-day course gives participants key practical skills with which to more effectively manage and resolve workplace conflict.

To examine the difference between constructive and destructive conflict.
To discuss participants' conflict management styles and how these influence decisions regarding how to manage conflict.
To understand the key skills necessary for effectively managing organisational conflict.

How to Establish a Successful Internal Mediation Service (half or 1 day)

Overview

An internal mediation service is a key element of an effective conflict management system. It provides a cost- and time-efficient way of managing internal conflicts at an early stage. It also helps to create an organisational culture of conflict resolution. This 1-day course is designed for participants who want a comprehensive overview of how to create or adapt an internal mediation service.

Objectives

To explore the design of an internal mediation service that will suit your organisation's needs.
To learn about the different components to setting up an internal mediation service: from mediation training to marketing through to evaluating its effectiveness.
To discuss the advantages and disadvantages of an internal mediation service and to analyse the viability and necessity of such a service to your organisation.

Content

An analysis of what constitutes a "successful" versus an "unsuccessful" internal mediation services, and the various building blocks of "success".
A break-down of the components that comprise the service, including stakeholder consultations and awareness-raising to ensure buy-in across the organisation, recruiting and training suitable mediators, creating or adapting policies and procedures.
Next steps to creating or adapting an internal mediation service.
