Accredited Workplace Mediation Certificate - Accredited by OCN (5 days plus assessment)

Overview

Workplace mediation is a powerful conflict resolution tool. Mediators can offer organisations an effective alternative to the costly and time-consuming solutions that are otherwise employed. Consensio has designed an intensive and highly experiential 6-day mediation course which enables participants to develop the skills and competencies to work as mediators in the facilitative mediation model. The course focuses on the principles, the process and the practice of mediation. This 6-day course provides participants with the practical tools and the necessary accreditation to work as in-house or consultant mediators.

Objectives

  • To understand the principles of mediation and the benefits of this approach to the modern workplace.
  • To practice key skills and essential strategies of effective mediators by using various case studies and role play scenarios.
  • To discuss best practice and to learn how to apply this to their mediation sessions.
  • To develop the confidence to work as an in-house or consultant workplace mediator.

Participants will be involved in various role plays as mediators, parties and observers, to practice and develop their mediation skills in a safe and supportive environment. Each role play is tailor-made to reflect conflict situations participants may be involved in once they start mediating. The role plays will be assessed by the trainers: participants will receive verbal feedback during the role plays and written feedback after the course ends.

Written work

Pre-course activities: To aid participants in their learning, participants are required to complete a pre-course questionnaire as well as pre-course reading.

During the course: To enhance a self-reflective mediation practice, participants are required to complete a mediation diary.

Post-course: To be eligible for accreditation, participants are required to complete a written assignment relating to mediation.

Delivery

The course combines trainer input, discussion and various role plays to explore effective mediation techniques. The course is highly interactive and experiential, with a focus on developing practical mediation skills to enable participants to work as in-house or consultant workplace mediators.

Content

The principles of mediation:

  • The theory and practice of organisational conflict.
  • Mediation as a voluntary and confidential process.
  • The mediator as impartial facilitator.

The mediation process:
